Another Ugly Republican

Reason, I realise in todays world I am probably thought of as homophobic, But I would like my own kids to percieve the male/female relationship as the norm. Thats not to say I look at a gay relationship as being weird, its just a union I dont understand. As I said I feel a gay teacher could complicate a childs mind.

Looking back at my elementary school education, I'd now bet my bottom dollar that the teacher I had for 7th & 8th grade (small school) and the other 7th & 8th grade teacher were an item. Of course, that could be cultural; it was 1967 and what woman wouldn't want to get married?

So if we assume they were gay, it was an adult relationship. They weren't a threat to the young girls in the class because they weren't pedophiles.

The assumption that all gay men prey on young boys really bothers me. Why isn't anyone up in arms about male hetrosexual high school teachers being around the girls?

By traditional, Sean, I meant just that. You seem to want your morals and mor?s cafeteria style. (Since there's sometimes something of a language barrier, that means you want to pick and choose those things you're comfortable with.)

It isn't a teacher's job to explain his/her sex life to the students. If any teacher, regardless of orientation brought that into a classroom, he/she should be booted out on his/her butt.

A question, though.

Here we have elementary school, which is grades 1 through 6 (ages 6 to 11 or so), middle school, grades 7 through 9 (12 to 14) and then high school (15 through 18). What are those things called in the UK?

I know that University has Levels, but I'm lost on the other stuff.

infant school years R (reception) to year 2 ages 4 to 7

Junior school years 3 to 5 ages 7 to 11

senior school years 6 to 10, Age 11 to 16

Bottom-line is this:

Should the pregnant single woman be allowed to teach? Of course. Do we need her to rant to the class about the destructive, patriarchial system known as marriage? Only if that's the subject matter of the class she's teaching (I'm not saying she did that, I'm just speaking hypothetically). Are the kids going to talk about her behind her back? Yes, but they'd do that anyway, no matter who it was- married, single, old, young, fat, skinny, tall, short, white, black....students talk about their teachers. I did. We all did. So be it.

But one thing is for certain- parents should be the arbiter of their childrens' upbringing, not the schools. And definitely not the public schools. English, math, science, history, etc. That's what the kids need to learn. They need to learn how to learn, not what to learn. As long as that end can be reached, it shouldn't matter who's doing the teaching.

The sooner religon is taken out of schools the better. How ridiculous an unmarried pregnant teacher could cause offense. Whats really offensive is the Catholic church protecting kiddie fiddlers who masquarde (sp) as gods teachers.
On the other hand I sadly [img]frown.gif[/img] would have a problem with a gay man teaching my kids especially at a junior school age. I just feel that at that age its an added issue to an already complicated world. I say sadly because equality is a big issue for me and whilst appearing hypocritical,my kids well being comes 1st.
